Sass Brown is the Assistant Dean for the school of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology, New York. Originally from London, England, Sass established herself as a designer with her own signature collection selling in the UK and across Canada. As an academic, her area of research is in community outreach and ethical design practices in fashion businesses. She is also the New York editor for the magazine Coco Eco, where she has chosen 2ETN twice in her NY Editor Loves guide.

To quote Natalie Chanin of Alabama Chanin, who wrote the foreword for Sass Brown’s new book REFASHIONED – “My experience of over a decade with my company Alabama Chanin tells me that recycling and re-purposing textiles lends to the complexity, artistry and value of a finished design. As people, our many roles change and evolve over the course of a lifetime; I love the idea that textiles can do the same. Sass Brown’s work proves that reviving something in order for it to serve a new purpose can be a beautiful act of conservation, design and art.”

This article, written by Rachel Ellner, on the FIT website, “Talking Trash with Sass”, captures the spirit behind the work that Sass Brown does and why.

A heartfelt thank you to Sass for her tireless passion, insight, guidance and  efforts in the world of Eco Fashion.
